The Brain Collection
The Institute of Brain Pathology was closed 1st May 1982.
The brains collected were stored at the Psychiatric Hospital in Aarhus and form the present Brain Collection.
Rutine processing of the brains
All brains were sliced and specific regions sampled and embedded in paraffin. Histological sections were generated and stained using a range of standard stains.
Brain tissue stored in formalin
The collection comprises 9437 containers with slized brains stored in formalin.
Paraffin embedded tissue
The collection contains approximately 50,000 tissue blocks embedded in paraffin.
Histological slides
Shelves packed with histological slide trays. Slides from approximately 6500 patients are preserved, a total of approximately 250,000 slides.
